POSITION SUMMARY
The Livestock Manager is responsible for the daily care, health, breeding, feeding, and overall management of livestock at the facility. This role ensures optimal animal welfare and productivity while maintaining industry standards for safety, compliance, and sustainability.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Oversee day-to-day care and handling of livestock (e.g., cattle, horses, goats, pigs, or sheep)
- Develop and implement feeding, breeding, and health programs
- Monitor animal health and coordinate with veterinarians for routine care and medical emergencies
- Maintain accurate records of livestock inventory, health treatments, breeding, and production
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and biosecurity protocols
- Supervise and train farmhands or animal care staff
- Maintain and operate livestock-related equipment and facilities (pens, barns, fencing, water systems, etc.)
- Monitor and manage budgets related to livestock operations, including feed, veterinary costs, and supplies
- Assist with marketing and sale of livestock, including show preparation or transportation as needed
- Coordinate logistics for breeding, births, weaning, and sales or auctions
- Manage grazing rotations or feed plans to optimize pasture use and nutrition
- Any other duties as assigned by management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field (preferred but not always required)
- 3+ years of experience in livestock care or farm/ranch operations
- Strong knowledge of livestock health, nutrition, and behavior
- Ability to handle physically demanding work and operate farm equipment
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Valid driver's license (CDL may be required for some operations)
- Early mornings, weekends, and holidays may be required depending on animal needs
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- This role involves both office and on-site work across barns, arenas, and outdoor spaces
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop, or ben
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high
