POSITION SUMMARY:
The Counselor engages and supervises groups of children ages 5-14 years old in a variety of sports activities and ensures that they have a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience in group activities. Responsible for carrying out lesson plans designed by the General Manager in a variety of sports, including flag football, soccer, baseball, softball, and other varying sports-related games. Responsible for aiding with program specific needs and activities depending on the current program. Responsible for maintaining effective discipline and safety procedures during all activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Supervise and coach group of 8-10 adolescents each day
- Maintain updated rosters while on duty
- Organize, instruct, and supervise children while they engage in group and individual sports activities
- Interact with parents via phone and email in a professional and polite manner
- Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques
- Perform all responsibilities in a manner that guarantees the safety of program participants
- Assist with drop-off and/or pick-up for youth participants
- Assist other counselors/coaches with all activities
- Perform other related duties as directed and/or required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with children
- Collegiate or high school athletic experience preferred
- Varied experience with recreational and athletic activities; knowledge of basic sports skills and instruction and knowledge of sports rules and regulations
- Ability to work with and communicate well with children ages 5-14 years and their parents as well as other team members
- Ability to lead and involve children in various sports activities
- Ability to edit MS Word/Excel documents and send email messages with attachments to parents
- Ability to provide first aid and emotional support and assistance to children ages 5-14
- Ability to coordinate the use of facilities and activities for a large group of children
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with employees
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, and other team members
- Licenses and Certifications: CPR and first aid certifications required
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend
- Must be able to walk to identify problems or hazards as well as work with children during recreational activities
